New Consoles in 2010

Game industry analysts Pacific Crest Securities has predicted that successors to the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 will be on the market as early as 2010. The industry is expected to hit peak sales in this year which will coincide with the end of the lifespan of the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP.

"We believe that peak industry sales will occur in 2010, given that Microsoft will likely introduce its next console that year and Nintendo will likely launch before then," said the firm's Evan Wilson. "Further, 2010 is also likely to coincide with the end of the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP cycles."

Sony have made their intentions clear that they want the PS3 to be a 10 year machine. The Wii launched in late 2006 meaning current predictions give it a 4 year life span while the Xbox 360 launched back in 2005 giving it a more realistic lifespan of 5 years. While its harder to believe that there will be new consoles in 2 years seeing new handhelds then seems much more likely as by then both the Nintendo DS and PSP will be nearing the end of their life spans.
